Magnolia West senior Bryce Newell was the star on the mound, delivering a masterful six innings of three-hit baseball, baffling Lake Creek hitters with seven strikeouts. His counterpart, Lake Creek’s Landon Howard, also turned in a strong outing, surrendering only one run but ultimately being tagged with the loss.

The game’s lone run unfolded dramatically in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mustangs infielder Trenton Buckley singled, stole second, and then advanced to third on a Lake Creek error. Junior Brandon Williams then stepped to the plate and hit a decisive sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Buckley to sprint home for what would be the winning run. The tension escalated in the top of the seventh when Lake Creek loaded the bases with just one out, threatening to tie or take the lead. With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning, Magnolia West’s Ryan Snell led off with a walk, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and then moved to third on a wild pitch, putting him in scoring position. Williams, displaying remarkable composure, stepped up and delivered another clutch sacrifice fly, this time scoring Snell for the go-ahead run.

On the mound, Trenton Buckley earned the win for West, pitching six strong innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out five.
