MC Fair Wins Best Event, Person of Year at TAFE

CONROE, TX – The Montgomery County Fair has once again proven itself a shining star in the Texas events landscape, sweeping a dozen prestigious awards at the recent Texas Association of Fairs & Events (TAFE) convention. Headlining their impressive haul was the coveted “Best Overall Event” award for fairs with under 250,000 attendance, a testament to the 2023 fair’s exceptional quality and community impact. Further underscoring the fair’s success, General Manager Theresa Wagaman was honored with the distinguished “Fair Person of the Year” award.

The accolades, which celebrated the Montgomery County Fair’s 2023 season held last year from April 13-23, were announced during TAFE’s annual gathering held in Frisco from January 11-14, 2024. The convention brings together professionals and volunteers from fairs, festivals, and events across the state to share best practices, recognize excellence, and foster industry growth.

Wagaman’s “Fair Person of the Year” recognition is a significant acknowledgement of her visionary leadership, tireless dedication, and profound influence on the fair’s operations and success. “This award isn’t just for me; it’s a reflection of the incredible team, our dedicated volunteers, and the supportive community that makes the Montgomery County Fair truly special,” Wagaman stated, expressing her gratitude. “Every day, we strive to create an unforgettable experience while upholding our mission to support local youth, and this honor truly validates those efforts.”

In total, the fair secured 12 top honors. These included first-place ribbons for their comprehensive marketing efforts, specifically for their television and print advertising campaigns, overall promotional materials, engaging website, and dynamic social media presence. They also earned top honors for innovative exhibits and attractions, showcasing their commitment to fresh and exciting experiences. Additionally, the fair received “Excellence” awards for its competitive exhibits across agriculture, horticulture, and creative arts, highlighting the broad spectrum of talent and tradition on display.

Board President Bobby Jack Adams beamed with pride over the recognition. “These awards validate the immense hard work of our countless volunteers, the dedicated staff, and the strong community support we receive year after year,” Adams remarked. “This recognition by our peers at TAFE highlights our unwavering commitment to delivering a top-tier experience that truly benefits Montgomery County.”

More than just an annual celebration of local culture and entertainment, the Montgomery County Fair, located in Conroe, serves as a vital force for good within the community. It plays a crucial role in raising substantial funds to empower the next generation. Last year alone, the 2023 fair distributed an impressive $371,000 in scholarships and awards to deserving local youth, directly investing in their educational and future endeavors.
