MC October Health Events: Breast Cancer & Alzheimer’s

Montgomery County residents are invited to participate in two significant health awareness events this October, both hosted at Dosey Doe the Big Barn in The Woodlands. These gatherings will focus on raising awareness and support for Breast Cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

First, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center will host its “Paint the Town Pink” event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Thursday, October 19, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dosey Doe the Big Barn, located at 25911 I-45 North, The Woodlands. This event is dedicated to honoring breast cancer survivors and those currently battling the disease, celebrating their resilience and milestones. Admission is free, but attendees are required to RSVP in advance at bit.ly/PaintTheTownPink2023. The initiative underscores the critical importance of early detection, especially considering that approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Later in the month, the Montgomery County Memory Mixer, a crucial fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, will take place on Thursday, October 26, from 6 to 9 p.m., also at Dosey Doe the Big Barn. Organized by the local committee, “Montgomery County Defeats Alzheimer’s” (MCDA), the mixer aims to raise vital awareness and funds. Tickets are available for $100 per person and include dinner, drinks, live music, and access to a silent auction. Tickets can be purchased online at alz.org/texas or at the door on the evening of the event. All proceeds will directly support local programs, care, support services, and cutting-edge research efforts. The cause is especially pertinent, with over 6.7 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer’s, including an estimated 400,000 individuals across Texas.
