Montgomery County History Road Rally Scavenger Hunt

**Montgomery County Historical Commission Invites Community to Explore Rich Past at Annual Road Rally March 2nd**

CONROE, TX – History enthusiasts and curious explorers are invited to mark their calendars for Saturday, March 2nd, as the Montgomery County Historical Commission (MCHC) hosts its Annual Road Rally, a popular event designed to blend education with engaging discovery. The drive-it-yourself historical scavenger hunt promises a fascinating journey through the historic old town of Montgomery, offering a unique way to connect with the area’s deep roots.

The day kicks off bright and early at 9:00 AM with registration, followed by the rally start at 9:30 AM. Participants will gather at the Montgomery County Heritage Museum, located at 1500 Beach Street in Conroe, to receive their instructions and clues.

This year’s rally is meticulously crafted as a scavenger hunt, guiding participants on a scenic drive through Montgomery, often recognized as the birthplace of the Texas flag and one of the state’s earliest settlements. Teams will follow a series of clues, leading them to specific historical markers and significant sites, where they will answer questions and delve into the stories that shaped the county. It’s an interactive and family-friendly way to explore the area’s rich past.

“Our Annual Road Rally is more than just a fun day out; it’s an immersive journey into the very fabric of our county’s heritage,” said Dr. Cynthia A. Tinsley, Chair of the Road Rally. “Participants will uncover stories and sites they might otherwise miss, all while contributing directly to our mission of preserving this invaluable history for future generations. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families, history buffs, and anyone curious about Montgomery County to discover its hidden gems and appreciate the foundations upon which our community was built.”

The cost for this historical adventure is a very reasonable $25 per car, which covers all necessary clues, detailed directions, and essential historical context to enrich the experience. To refuel after their explorations, participants will also be treated to a light lunch, including sandwiches, chips, cookies, and refreshing drinks.

While day-of registration is available at the museum, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Signing up in advance helps the MCHC organizers accurately plan for lunch and materials, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone. Online registration is convenient and can be completed by visiting montgomerycountyhistoricalcommission.com. For any specific questions regarding the event, Dr. Tinsley can be reached directly at catinsley@consolidated.net.

Beyond providing an engaging community event, the Road Rally serves a crucial fundraising role. All proceeds directly support the MCHC’s vital work in Montgomery County, which includes placing new historical markers, funding important local historical research, and supporting educational programs that help preserve and promote the county’s heritage for future generations. The MCHC is dedicated to safeguarding the historical integrity of Montgomery County through documentation, preservation, and public engagement.
