Montgomery County March 3 Primary Voter Guide

CONROE, TX – As Tuesday, March 3, 2020, approaches, voters across Conroe and Montgomery County are preparing to head to the polls for the crucial primary election that will determine which candidates advance to the November general election. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. across the county on Election Day.

For those who preferred to cast their ballots ahead of time, early voting for the primary election began on Tuesday, February 18, and concluded on Friday, February 28.

**Key Information for Election Day Voters:**

* **Assigned Precinct:** It is crucial for voters to cast their ballot at their *assigned precinct polling location* on Election Day. You can find your specific precinct number on your voter registration card or by checking online through the Montgomery County Elections Office website (mctx.org/elections) or the Texas Secretary of State’s portal (votetexas.gov).
* **No Straight-Ticket Voting:** Texas primary elections do not allow straight-ticket voting. Voters must select each candidate individually for every race they wish to vote in.
* **Declare Your Party:** Upon arrival at the polling location, you will be asked to declare whether you are voting in the Democratic or Republican primary. You can only vote in one party’s primary.
* **Identification Requirements:** Voters will need one of the accepted forms of photo identification:
* Texas Driver’s License
* Texas Election Identification Certificate
* Texas Personal Identification Card
* Texas Handgun License
* U.S. Military Identification Card with your photo
* U.S. Citizenship Certificate with your photo
* U.S. Passport
* If you do not possess one of these approved IDs, you may be able to cast a regular ballot by signing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and providing one of the following supporting documents: a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or a certified birth certificate.

**Local and Regional Races to Watch:**

Beyond the statewide and presidential primaries, several important local and regional races will be decided or narrowed down by Montgomery County voters.

* **U.S. Representative, District 8:**
* **Republican Primary:** Incumbent Kevin Brady faces challenges from Kirk Osborn, Richard “Doc” Dana, and Kelli Reuthinger.
* **Democratic Primary:** Voters will choose between Laura Jones, Elizabeth Rowray, and Jessica Stoehr.
* **Texas House, District 16:**
* **Republican Primary:** Incumbent Will Metcalf is challenged by Greg Parker.
* **Democratic Primary:** Miguel Partee and Lorene Partee are both on the ballot.
* **Montgomery County Judge:**
* **Republican Primary:** Incumbent Mark Keough faces challengers for the county’s top administrative position.
* **Montgomery County Sheriff:**
* **Republican Primary:** Incumbent Rand Henderson is defending his seat against multiple candidates.
* **Other Key County Races:** Republicans, who typically see the most contested races in the heavily conservative county, will also select nominees for County Commissioner Precincts 1 and 3, District Attorney, District Clerk, County Clerk, County Treasurer, Tax Assessor-Collector, and various Constable and Justice of the Peace positions across all four precincts. Democratic primary ballots will also feature candidates for several county-level offices.

Voters are strongly encouraged to review their sample ballot online via the Montgomery County Elections Office website at mctx.org/elections or the Texas Secretary of State’s portal at votetexas.gov. This will help familiarize them with all the races and candidates pertinent to their specific precinct before heading to the polls.

The primary election serves as the internal selection process for both the Democratic and Republican parties, allowing registered voters to choose their party’s nominees for the general election in November. Your participation in the primary directly impacts who will appear on the ballot later this year.
