Montgomery County Commissioner's Court on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, unanimously passed Resolution 24-0604, a measure that both honored Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, and issued a strong condemnation of political violence across America.
The resolution received full support from all court members. Presiding was Judge Doyal, and Commissioners James Noack, Robert Walker, Matt Gray, and Riley each cast their votes in favor. The court specifically recognized Kirk for his "contributions to civil discourse and education."
A significant component of Resolution 24-0604 was its explicit condemnation of politically motivated violence. The resolution’s strong stance on this issue was notably informed by a recent incident in the Houston area. Just weeks prior, a Turning Point USA event in Spring, Texas, where Kirk was reportedly targeted, was disrupted by protestors, an action many supporters characterized as "cancel culture."
Charlie Kirk was present at the Montgomery County meeting and addressed the court briefly. He expressed his gratitude for the resolution and underscored the critical importance of local government in fostering civil society.
