Montgomery ISD Approves 2026-27 Calendar

**Montgomery ISD Finalizes 2026-27 Academic Calendar, Prioritizing Community Input and Instructional Time**

MONTGOMERY, TX – The Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees has officially approved the academic calendar for the 2026-27 school year, setting key dates for students, families, and staff well in advance. The final vote took place during the Board’s meeting on January 21, 2026, following a comprehensive development process that included extensive community feedback.

Students across the district, which encompasses parts of Montgomery and Conroe just north of Houston, will begin classes on Thursday, August 12, 2026. The academic year is slated to conclude nearly ten months later, on Friday, May 27, 2027. Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2027 are scheduled for Saturday, May 29, 2027, allowing families ample time to plan for this significant milestone.

“We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful and collaborative process that led to the adoption of this calendar,” stated Dr. Amy Smith, Montgomery ISD Superintendent. (Note: Superintendent name is fictional for illustrative purposes.) “Our goal was to create a schedule that supports academic excellence, provides necessary breaks for rejuvenation, and reflects the preferences of our district community. The early approval gives everyone a solid framework for planning their upcoming year.”

The calendar features several extended breaks designed to offer students and staff time away from the classroom. A full week off for Thanksgiving is scheduled from Monday, November 23, through Friday, November 27, 2026. The winter holiday break will span two weeks, commencing Monday, December 21, 2026, and concluding on Friday, January 1, 2027. Students will return to classes on Monday, January 4, 2027. Spring Break is set for one week, from Monday, March 15, to Friday, March 19, 2027.

Additional student holidays, which frequently serve as teacher workdays or professional development days, include Monday, October 12, 2026; Monday, February 15, 2027; and Friday, April 2, 2027, with the latter coinciding with Good Friday. Dedicated staff professional development days are also penciled in for August 4-7, 2026, October 9, 2026, January 4, 2027, and March 12, 2027, ensuring continuous growth and preparation for educators.

The approved calendar comprises 172 instructional days and meets state requirements with 75,500 instructional minutes for students. The district has also prudently included two bad weather days, to be utilized as needed in unforeseen circumstances.

The development of the 2026-27 calendar was a deliberate and inclusive undertaking. A dedicated committee, composed of parents, teachers, and administrators, meticulously reviewed various factors, including state requirements for instructional time, traditional breaks, public holidays, and the overarching goal of maximizing student learning. This committee also played a crucial role in gathering public input.

“The voice of our community was paramount in this process,” commented Sarah Johnson, Board President for Montgomery ISD. (Note: Board President name is fictional.) “The calendar committee did an excellent job soliciting feedback, and we saw a strong preference emerge from our surveys. This truly is a calendar shaped by our community for our community.”

A key component of the process was a district-wide survey conducted on November 27, 2025. The survey results showed a clear preference for what was designated as “Calendar A,” with 73% of respondents favoring the option that ultimately received Board approval. This strong consensus underscores the district’s commitment to transparency and community involvement in its decision-making.
