**The Players Theatre Stages Dark Comedy “Good Luck & Fun Don’t Die” at Historic Owen Theatre**

CONROE, TX – The Players Theatre Company invites audiences to delve into the complexities of grief, life, and death with a hearty dose of dark humor in their latest production, “Good Luck & Fun Don’t Die.” Staging now at Conroe’s historic Owen Theatre, located at 225 Metcalf St., the play promises an evening of unexpected twists and poignant laughter. The production, written by Elizabeth A.M. Jenkins and directed by Emily Glass, opened on Friday, May 31, and runs through Sunday, June 9.

“Good Luck & Fun Don’t Die” centers on Margo, portrayed by Becky Teague, and her daughter Claire, played by Kristin Miller, as they navigate the fresh grief of losing their husband and father. Their world, already upended by tragedy, takes an even more bizarre turn with the arrival of Charlie, a charming yet mysterious stranger depicted by Michael Marlin. Audiences soon discover Charlie’s true identity: a hitman, hired by the deceased before his passing to “take care” of the women. The play then masterfully unfolds as Margo and Claire grapple with this absurd and tragic circumstance, forcing them to question the very meaning of “fun” and how to find it amidst chaos and profound challenges.

Director Emily Glass shared her excitement about the production. “This play brilliantly intertwines sorrow with surprising moments of levity,” Glass stated. “It challenges our perceptions of grief and what it means to truly live after loss. It’s a journey through darkness, but it’s ultimately about finding light, laughter, and understanding in the most unexpected places. Our cast has done an incredible job bringing these complex characters to life, making their bizarre predicament feel profoundly human.”

The ensemble cast further enriches the play’s unique blend of whimsy and poignancy. Brenda Newman appears as the steadfast Aunt Joan, William “B.J.” Black adds a distinctive touch as B.J., and Bob Price embodies a memorable “The Grim Reaper,” contributing to the play’s exploration of life and death with a theatrical flourish.

“The Players Theatre Company has a long-standing tradition of bringing compelling and diverse stories to the Conroe community,” said Angelie Walker-Collins, who serves as both producer and sound designer for the show. “This production is no exception. It’s a bold piece that will resonate with anyone who has faced loss, but it also offers a cathartic release through its clever humor. We believe it offers a truly unique theatre experience.”

The production boasts a dedicated creative team, with set design by Philip and Carol Clark, and lighting design by David Herman, all contributing to create the atmospheric world of the play within the classic confines of the Owen Theatre, a cornerstone of Conroe’s cultural landscape.
