“Second Act: Wicked Good” Screens in TX with Local Ties

**Montgomery County Shines on Big Screen with Local Indie Film ‘Second Act: Wicked Good’**

A romantic dramedy with deep roots in Montgomery County, “Second Act: Wicked Good,” is now playing for a limited engagement across several Texas theaters, having premiered this past Friday, December 8th. The 25-minute independent production, spearheaded by Montgomery County resident Laura L. Smith in her debut as a writer, director, and producer, showcases numerous recognizable local landmarks.

Much of the short film was shot right here in Montgomery County, leveraging picturesque locations like historic downtown Conroe, the vibrant Conroe Art League, and the Madeley National Center for the Arts. Additional scenes extended the film’s scope, shot in the coastal city of Galveston and scenic New Hampshire, connecting directly to the film’s plot.

“Bringing this story to life, especially with so much of it shot right here in our community, has been an absolute dream come true,” said Laura L. Smith, founder of Just Sayin’ Productions LLC. “Montgomery County truly became a character in itself, and the support we received from local businesses and residents, from the Conroe Art League to the Madeley Center, was incredible. It was a labor of love, a true grassroots effort fueled by passion, proving that compelling stories can be told right from our own backyard.”

The film follows a man from New Hampshire who travels to Galveston to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s disappearance, ultimately finding an unexpected new love interest along the way. The title “Wicked Good” is a nod to the protagonist’s New England origins, a colloquialism meaning “very good.”

Starring Mark Collver and Tina Smith in the lead roles, the ensemble cast also includes David Conaway, Cindy Williams, and Chris Conant.

As a personal endeavor for Smith and largely self-funded under her “Just Sayin’ Productions LLC,” the project exemplifies the spirit of independent filmmaking. “Every dollar was on screen, and every moment was about telling an authentic, heartfelt story that we hope resonates with audiences,” Smith added.

Area residents have a prime opportunity to support local talent and cinema during the film’s limited run, timed specifically for the holiday season.
