Conroe Woman Missing Since December Identified as Homicide Victim; Foul Play Suspected After Lake Conroe Discovery

CONROE, TX – Conroe authorities have officially confirmed the human remains discovered in Lake Conroe last month belong to Stoni Frazier, a 31-year-old local woman who vanished shortly before Christmas. Police are now investigating her death as a homicide, strongly suspecting foul play.

The grim discovery was made on January 23, 2024, by an individual on a boat near the 10000 block of FM 830 on Lake Conroe. The Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constables Office dive team responded to the scene and successfully recovered the remains that same day. Lake Conroe, a popular recreational area north of Houston, became the unexpected site of the investigation.

Frazier was last seen alive at her Conroe home on December 17, 2023. Family members reported her missing to the Conroe Police Department three days later, on December 20, 2023, sparking an initial missing person investigation. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as wearing a gray Nike sweatsuit. The identification brings a tragic end to the search for Frazier, who had been missing for over five weeks when her remains were found.

The identification process proved lengthy, requiring detailed forensic work. On February 27, 2024, the Montgomery County Forensic Services Department, utilizing dental records, positively identified the remains as those of Stoni Frazier. This official confirmation allowed authorities to shift the focus of their investigation.

With the identification complete and foul play suspected, the Conroe Police Department has now escalated the case to a homicide investigation. The department is working in close collaboration with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This multi-agency involvement underscores the serious and complex nature of the ongoing inquiry into Frazier’s death. While specific details regarding the cause of death have not yet been released to the public, investigators are actively pursuing leads.

Authorities are making a direct appeal to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. Anyone who may have seen Stoni Frazier around the time of her disappearance, or who possesses any knowledge related to her death, is urged to contact the Conroe Police Department at 936-522-3200. Investigators stress that even seemingly minor details could be crucial to solving the case.
