Texas HD 16 Election: Metcalf vs DeOlivera

## Texas House District 16 Race Heats Up for November General Election

**CONROE, Texas** – Voters in Texas House District 16, encompassing significant portions of Conroe and extending through communities like Cut and Shoot, Splendora, Pinehurst, Magnolia, and Montgomery within Montgomery County, are gearing up for the general election on November 5, 2024. The contest will feature Republican incumbent Will Metcalf vying for his sixth term against Democratic challenger Brandon DeOlivera.

The district, known for its rapid growth and increasingly suburban character within the Greater Houston area, is a key focus for both parties as they look towards the upcoming legislative session.

Will Metcalf, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a Texas A&M University alumnus, is seeking re-election to the statehouse. Metcalf, who was first elected in 2014, is running unopposed in the Republican primary scheduled for March 5, 2024, securing his spot on the November ballot.

Throughout his tenure, Metcalf has consistently championed legislative priorities centered on property tax relief, enhancing border security measures, ensuring robust funding for public education, and strengthening election integrity laws. He currently serves on influential House committees, including Natural Resources and State Affairs, where he has been involved in legislation concerning water policy, environmental regulations, and critical state governance issues.

“It has been an honor to represent the hardworking families and businesses of Montgomery County,” Metcalf stated in a recent campaign announcement. “My commitment remains steadfast: to fight for lower property taxes, secure our border, fully fund our schools, and protect the integrity of our elections. We must continue to ensure Texas remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Challenging the incumbent is Brandon DeOlivera, a newcomer to state-level politics who brings a background rooted in public service. DeOlivera served in the Marine Corps and later as a police officer before transitioning to a career in public safety technology.

DeOlivera’s campaign platform emphasizes enhancing public education funding, addressing the rising burden of property taxes, and ensuring accessible healthcare options for constituents across the district. He has also highlighted environmental concerns pertinent to Montgomery County’s rapid development, advocating for sustainable growth and protection of local natural resources.

“I’ve spent my life serving my community, first in uniform and now in public safety technology. I’m running to bring a fresh perspective and a focus on the needs of everyday Texans to Austin,” DeOlivera commented on his campaign launch. “Our district deserves a representative who will champion fully funded public schools, work tirelessly to lower property taxes for all residents, ensure affordable healthcare access, and protect our local environment for future generations.”

Texas House District 16 is widely considered a Republican stronghold, with Montgomery County historically voting conservative. However, the district’s significant population growth in recent years has brought new demographics and a diversifying electorate, which both campaigns will likely target.

The primary election for both parties is set for March 5, 2024. With Metcalf running unopposed, all eyes in HD 16 will be on the general election campaign leading up to November 5. Voters are encouraged to check their registration status and find polling locations through the Montgomery County Elections Administrator’s office or the Texas Secretary of State website.
