Texas Wine Month: Discover Our $13.1 Billion Industry

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas is raising a glass throughout October to celebrate its robust and growing wine industry with the designation of Texas Wine Month. This annual initiative, championed by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association (TWGGA), highlights the exceptional wines produced across the state and encourages support for local vineyards.

Commissioner Sid Miller of the Texas Department of Agriculture underscored the significant economic impact of the state’s wine sector. “Texas’s wine industry is an incredible asset, contributing an estimated $13.1 billion to our economy annually and supporting approximately 104,000 jobs,” Miller stated. “It serves as a vital boost for both our agricultural communities and our burgeoning tourism industry.”

Despite often being overshadowed by traditional wine regions, Texas proudly stands as the fifth largest wine-producing state in the United States, boasting more than 500 wineries. The state’s viticultural roots run deep, with the first grapevines planted by missionaries over 350 years ago. Today, Texas vineyards cultivate an impressive array of over 60 different grape varieties, showcasing the diverse terroir and innovative spirit of its winemakers.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to fully immerse themselves in the Texas wine experience during October. Opportunities abound to visit a local winery, embark on educational tours, enjoy curated tastings, or attend one of the many wine festivals scheduled across the state. This month-long celebration provides an ideal chance to discover the unique flavors and stories behind Texas-made wines.
