**HOUSTON, TX – November 15, 2024** – The University of Houston’s Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts is poised to make a significant impact on the entertainment industry with the launch of its new Online Film Leadership Certificate program, set to welcome its first cohort on January 26, 2026. This fully online initiative is designed to equip a new generation of professionals with the essential business and management skills required to lead and innovate within the rapidly evolving film and media landscape.

The certificate program is specifically tailored for aspiring film executives, producers, project managers, and other creative leaders who recognize the critical need for a strong grasp of the industry’s business side. Its robust curriculum delves deep into vital areas such as strategic project management, comprehensive financial planning, effective distribution strategies across diverse platforms, and the crucial legal considerations inherent in film production and media ventures.

“There’s a clear and growing demand in the market for business-focused education within the film and media sectors,” said Dr. Andrew Davis, Director of the UH School of Theatre & Dance. “Our goal is to bridge that gap by offering a program that not only understands the artistic vision but also empowers individuals to navigate the complex financial and operational realities of bringing creative projects to life. We’re leveraging Houston’s expanding media sector to prepare professionals who can truly lead.”

Dr. Sally Reynolds, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, emphasized the program’s strategic importance and accessibility. “The industry is in constant flux, driven by technological advancements and shifting consumption habits. This online certificate provides a flexible, rigorous pathway for professionals, whether they’re looking to advance in major studios, launch independent productions, or manage content in the digital space. It’s about empowering them to make informed decisions that drive success and innovation.”

The entirely online format offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing working professionals from anywhere to access UH’s expertise without relocating. The program is structured into a series of focused modules, typically taking 9-12 months to complete, and culminates in a capstone project that applies learned principles to real-world industry scenarios. While specific tuition details are still being finalized, the university anticipates competitive pricing designed to make this essential education accessible.

Houston’s burgeoning media scene provides a dynamic backdrop for this new program. With increasing film incentives, a growing number of production companies, and a diverse talent pool, the city is becoming a fertile ground for creative industries. The University of Houston aims to further cultivate this ecosystem by developing a skilled workforce capable of leading its growth.

Prospective students with a bachelor’s degree and relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply. Detailed information regarding admission requirements, curriculum, faculty profiles, and tuition will be available soon.
