**Young Texas Artists Announces 2026 Music Competition, Set to Ignite Conroe Stage**

CONROE, TX – The Young Texas Artists (YTA) organization has officially launched the call for its prestigious 2026 Music Competition, promising another exciting showcase of rising classical music talent. The biennial event, renowned for fostering the careers of young musicians, will culminate in Conroe with preliminary rounds and a grand finale performance in mid-March 2026.

Aspiring classical musicians will have their opportunity to apply when the application window opens on September 1, 2025. A firm deadline for submissions is set for January 10, 2026, giving prospective competitors ample time to prepare their entries.

The competition itself is scheduled to unfold over four days in March 2026. Preliminary rounds will take place from March 12-14, likely held at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in Huntsville, a long-standing academic partner of the competition. The excitement will then shift to the historic Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe for the much-anticipated Finalists Concert and Awards on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

“We are incredibly thrilled to announce the 2026 competition and continue our mission of identifying, encouraging, and promoting young classical musicians in Texas,” said Susie Moore, President of the Young Texas Artists organization. “This competition is more than just a contest; it’s a pivotal launching pad for careers, offering not only significant financial awards but also invaluable performance experience and exposure to a dedicated audience and influential music community.”

Young Texas Artists actively seeks top talent across four main categories: Voice, Piano, Strings, and Winds/Brass/Percussion. Competitors will be vying for a share of over $20,000 in cash prizes, including the prestigious Dr. Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Texas Artists Grand Prize. Dr. Mitchell, a revered philanthropist and patron of the arts in Montgomery County, particularly in The Woodlands area, left a lasting legacy of supporting cultural endeavors, making this grand prize a truly significant honor.

Beyond the cash awards, finalists also have the unique opportunity to compete for special awards that involve performing with two esteemed local ensembles: the Conroe Symphony Orchestra and The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra. These concerto opportunities provide invaluable orchestral performance experience, a critical step for any young classical musician’s development.

The YTA competition, first established in 1983, has grown to become one of the premier classical music events in the state, attracting exceptionally talented individuals who often go on to successful careers on national and international stages. The organization emphasizes a strong commitment to education and community engagement alongside the competition itself.

“The Crighton Theatre is proud to once again host the YTA Finalists Concert,” commented Doug Miller, Manager of the Crighton Theatre. “This event brings world-class talent to Conroe, filling our historic venue with incredible music and providing a wonderful cultural experience for our community. We look forward to another unforgettable evening.”

Prospective competitors are typically young musicians with a strong connection to Texas – either through residency, education, or significant performance history within the state – and usually fall within a specific age range, which will be detailed in the official application guidelines.
