3-Vehicle Crash on Conroe Hwy 242 Snarls Tuesday Traffic

CONROE, Texas – A major multi-vehicle collision snarled Tuesday morning commutes on Highway 242, causing significant delays for drivers heading toward the I-45 interchange.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday as traffic began to build near the I-45 overpass, a notorious choke point for Montgomery County commuters. While early reports from witnesses suggested a two-vehicle incident, responding agencies later confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the pile-up: a grey Mercedes, a white Ford F-250 pickup truck, and a second white Mercedes.

Emergency crews from the Conroe Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) arrived on the scene within minutes to secure the area and provide medical aid. According to the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD), three individuals were transported to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands for further evaluation. Officials confirmed that all three patients were in stable condition upon arrival at the hospital. Several other motorists involved in the collision were evaluated by paramedics on-site but were ultimately cleared to leave without needing hospital transport.

The incident caused a significant bottleneck for eastbound traffic, with backups stretching for miles throughout the morning rush hour. To mitigate the gridlock, MCSO deputies worked alongside the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to implement a traffic diversion, routing vehicles onto the shoulder to bypass the wreckage.

Clearing the scene proved difficult due to the volume of vehicles involved and the heavy morning traffic load. Crews worked for more than an hour to clear the debris and facilitate the removal of the damaged vehicles. Normal traffic flow was not fully restored until late Tuesday morning.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, nor have they stated what may have triggered the chain-reaction collision. The incident remains under investigation by local law enforcement.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor local traffic alerts via the TxDOT Drive Texas website at drivetexas.org for updates on road conditions and to plan alternate routes during peak travel times.
