Armed Sex Offender Felon Arrested in Montgomery Co.

Wanted sex offender David Bell, 48, was arrested in Conroe, TX for failing to register in CO.
CONROE, Texas — A multi-agency law enforcement operation resulted in the arrest of a wanted sex offender in Montgomery County this week, bringing a fugitive from Colorado into custody while uncovering additional criminal charges.
David Eugene Bell, 48, was taken into custody on Monday, April 29, in the 28000 block of Robinson Road. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Bell was identified as the subject of an active out-of-state felony warrant issued by Jefferson County, Colorado, just days earlier on April 25. The warrant alleged that Bell failed to comply with state sex offender registration requirements.
Bell’s criminal history dates back to 1999, when he was convicted of sexual assault on a child in Colorado.
The arrest operation, which involved the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Special Investigations Unit, the Tactical Response Team, and the federal Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, led to additional charges after officers searched the premises. Authorities confirmed that Bell was found in possession of a firearm at the time of his apprehension. Because Bell is a convicted felon, he now faces an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Law enforcement officials expressed heightened concern regarding the circumstances of the arrest, noting that a child was residing in the home where Bell was located. Montgomery County deputies immediately contacted Child Protective Services to ensure the safety and welfare of the minor.
"The successful apprehension of Mr. Bell was the result of excellent cooperation between our local units and our federal partners," a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office stated. "Our primary focus remains the safety of our community, especially when it involves the protection of children."
As of Wednesday, Bell remains incarcerated at the Montgomery County Jail. He is currently held on a $50,000 bond for the unlawful possession of a firearm charge. However, he is being held without bond on the outstanding Colorado warrant, meaning he will remain in custody until the extradition process to Jefferson County is addressed.
The investigation into Bell’s activities during his time in Texas remains ongoing. Residents with additional information regarding this case or other suspicious activity are encouraged to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP to remain anonymous.
