CISD Free & Reduced Meal Applications Open

CISD Free & Reduced Meal Applications Open

CONROE, TX — With the start of the 2023-2024 academic year on the horizon, Conroe Independent School District (CISD) has officially opened the application process for its free and reduced-price meal programs. The district is encouraging families to prepare for the upcoming school year by submitting their eligibility forms now to ensure there is no lapse in access to nutritious breakfasts and lunches.

The programs, which operate under the federally funded National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast Program, serve as a critical safety net for students in the Conroe area. By providing subsidized or free daily meals, the district aims to reduce food insecurity and support student academic performance, as research consistently shows that consistent nutrition is linked to better focus and attendance in the classroom.

Eligibility is determined primarily by household size and income thresholds set annually by the federal government. However, many families may qualify automatically through a process known as direct certification. Students living in households that receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) are generally pre-approved. Furthermore, the district automatically extends eligibility to foster children and students identified as homeless, migrant, or runaway youth.

District officials noted that while participation in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) does not guarantee automatic eligibility, families enrolled in WIC are encouraged to apply, as they often fall within the income brackets required for meal assistance.

To streamline the process, Conroe ISD has made the application accessible through a user-friendly digital portal. Families are urged to visit the district’s official website at www.conroeisd.net to complete the application electronically. Online submission is the preferred method, as it significantly reduces processing time for district staff.

For those who prefer a traditional approach, paper applications are available for pick-up at any CISD campus front office or at the Child Nutrition Department headquarters, located at 1205 Callahan Avenue in Conroe. Completed paper forms may be returned to the student’s campus office or delivered directly to the Child Nutrition Department.

District leadership emphasized that the application process is handled with strict confidentiality. Conroe ISD remains committed to providing meals without discrimination, strictly adhering to USDA policy and federal civil rights protections.

Families with questions regarding the application process, documentation requirements, or account status are encouraged to reach out to the CISD Child Nutrition Department at 936-709-7801. Applications remain open throughout the school year, and families are encouraged to re-apply if their financial circumstances change at any point during the term.
