Conroe Airport Forced Landing Injures Two

Conroe Airport Forced Landing Injures Two

CONROE, Texas – Two people were hospitalized following an emergency landing of a small experimental aircraft at Lone Star Executive Airport (KCXO) on Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2023.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. when the pilot of a single-engine Velocity V-Twin aircraft, registered as N613V, reported sudden engine trouble shortly after departing from Runway 32. Faced with a total loss of power, the pilot executed a forced landing, successfully bringing the aircraft down in a grassy area just west of the runway.

Emergency personnel, including the Conroe Fire Department and the Montgomery County Hospital District EMS, arrived on the scene within minutes. Both occupants were transported to local medical facilities for treatment. While initial assessments suggested minor injuries, updated information from local authorities confirmed that one passenger sustained potentially serious, though non-life-threatening, injuries. The second occupant was reported to have suffered only minor injuries.

According to airport officials, the aircraft did not catch fire, and no other planes or airport infrastructure were damaged during the landing. Airport operations were not significantly impacted, and flights in and out of the Conroe facility continued as scheduled throughout the afternoon.

The Velocity V-Twin is a kit-built, experimental aircraft known for its unique pusher-propeller design. Because the aircraft is classified under experimental airworthiness regulations, the investigation into its mechanical history and maintenance is a standard priority for federal agencies.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified of the crash and have launched a formal investigation. The wreckage was recovered from the field and moved to a secure hangar at the airport, where investigators are expected to conduct a detailed examination of the engine and airframe to determine the cause of the power loss.

Records from the FAA registry indicate the aircraft is registered to a private owner in the region. The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report on the incident in the coming weeks, which can be tracked through their official accident database at https://www.ntsb.gov.

Authorities have not released the identities of the pilot and passenger at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
