Conroe Art League's Four Pillars Exhibit

Conroe Art League's Four Pillars Exhibit

Conroe Art League's "Lines, Legends, Limitless Talent" exhibit honors four influential local artists—Lynn P. Kelly, Janet C.

CONROE – The artistic pulse of Montgomery County will be on full display this spring as the Conroe Art League (CAL) launches a blockbuster exhibition honoring four individuals who have defined the local creative aesthetic for generations.

The retrospective, titled Lines, Legends, Limitless Talent, opens at the Madeley Fine Art Gallery at 127 Simonton Street on March 5 and runs through April 27, 2024. The exhibition serves as a tribute to four pillars of the community: Lynn P. Kelly, Janet C. Jones, Juan Cantavella, and Craig J. Campobella.

For those looking to experience the exhibition in a festive atmosphere, the gallery will host an official opening reception on Saturday, March 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, offering attendees the chance to engage with the artists while enjoying live music and refreshments. The evening will serve as a dual celebration, as it also coincides with the opening of the Conroe Art League’s prestigious National Invitational Show, effectively doubling the artistic offerings available to gallery visitors.

The exhibition is a cornerstone of the Conroe cultural calendar, underscored by the involvement of the City of Conroe and the Arts and Culture Alliance. According to gallery leadership, the show is intended to preserve the legacy of artists who have not only produced acclaimed work but have also provided the structural leadership necessary to sustain the region's arts scene.

Featured artists in the exhibit include:

Lynn P. Kelly: A former CAL president and multi-award-winning artist, Kelly is celebrated for her technical mastery across oils, pastels, and watercolors. Her portfolio reflects a broad command of the medium, ranging from evocative Texas landscapes to intimate portraiture and detailed still-life arrangements.

Janet C. Jones: As a self-taught watercolorist and a past president of the Conroe Art League, Jones is credited with documenting the subtle, shifting beauty of the Texas countryside. Her works are frequently noted for their fluid application and deep understanding of regional light.

Juan Cantavella: A master of the pastel medium, Cantavella’s work is characterized by a high-energy, impressionistic style. Often drawing upon his Spanish roots, he infuses his portraits and landscapes with a vibrant sense of movement and bold color theory.

Craig J. Campobella: A multidisciplinary artist whose reach extends far beyond the canvas. While he is a skilled painter and draftsman, Campobella is perhaps best recognized for his significant contributions to public art. Residents will likely recognize his hand in landmarks such as the Texas Flag sculpture at Candy Cane Park, the Freedom Bell at Heritage Park, and the Statue of Liberty replica at Liberty Park.

The Conroe Art League, which operates out of the historic Madeley Building, continues to act as a vital hub for regional artists through workshops, competitive showcases, and outreach programs.

Lines, Legends, Limitless Talent will be available for viewing during regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information regarding the exhibition or to learn more about the Conroe Art League’s upcoming programs, visit conroeartleague.com.
