Conroe Car Show Raises Funds for Wayne Grover

CONROE, Texas – The parking lot of the Golden Corral at 1708 League Line Road was transformed into a display of chrome and horsepower this past Saturday, May 18, as the local community gathered for a classic car show aimed at supporting a long-time employee facing a difficult health battle.
The event featured more than 50 vehicles, ranging from pristine vintage hot rods to powerful, restored muscle cars. While the automobiles drew a large crowd, the day was truly centered on honoring Wayne Grover, a staple of the Conroe restaurant for over three decades.
Grover, a resident of Splendora, began his career at the location as a dishwasher and eventually transitioned to a role as a line cook, becoming a familiar face to generations of diners. In March, Grover received a life-altering diagnosis: Stage 4 colon cancer, which has since metastasized to his liver and lungs.
The initiative to organize the show came from store manager Brenda Hernandez and district manager Kevin, who sought a meaningful way to provide financial relief for Grover as he navigates intensive medical treatments and the subsequent loss of income. They were joined by loyal customers and friends Judy and Bill Capps, who helped coordinate the logistics and outreach.
The day featured a raffle with an array of prizes donated by local businesses and Golden Corral staff members. All revenue generated from the car registration fees and ticket sales was donated directly to the Grover family to help cover medical expenses.
The event highlighted the deep bonds Grover forged during his 30-year tenure. Regular customers who have grown accustomed to his presence in the kitchen turned out in force, turning a routine Saturday into a powerful display of community solidarity.
Organizers noted that the turnout exceeded expectations, illustrating the impact a dedicated employee can have on a community over the course of a career. For those who were unable to attend the event but wish to assist, inquiries regarding donations can be directed to the Golden Corral management team at the League Line Road location.
The family has expressed deep gratitude to the Conroe and Splendora communities for their continued thoughts, prayers, and financial contributions during this challenging time.
