Conroe Carport Fire Damages Vacant Home, Dogs Saved

Conroe FD contained a Dogwood Lane structure fire Wed. morning, causing extensive damage to a vacant home after starting in its carport.
CONROE, Texas — The Conroe Fire Department successfully contained a structure fire on Wednesday morning that caused significant damage to a residence in the 2300 block of Dogwood Lane.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:45 a.m. on July 12 after reports of smoke billowing from a vacant home. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the blaze had originated in the residence’s carport. Driven by wind and structural conditions, the flames rapidly spread from the exterior structure into the attic, eventually penetrating the main living quarters of the home.
A total of 18 firefighters responded to the scene, working in tandem to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties. The house, which officials confirmed was vacant at the time of the incident, sustained extensive interior and structural damage.
While the property was unoccupied, crews discovered two dogs trapped inside the smoke-filled residence. Firefighters performed a successful rescue operation, bringing both animals to safety. According to officials, the dogs appeared unharmed and were provided with water and care at the scene before being reunited with the property owner later that day.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported during the operation.
Emergency vehicles and personnel occupied the roadway for several hours, forcing local authorities to temporarily shut down traffic on Dogwood Lane to allow for safe maneuvering of fire apparatus and coordination with the Montgomery County Hospital District, which stood by on the scene.
Investigators from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office remained on-site for several hours Wednesday afternoon to sift through the debris. As of Thursday, the official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Residents are reminded that if they suspect fire hazards in their neighborhood or see smoke from vacant properties, they should contact the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office or the Conroe Fire Department non-emergency line immediately.
