Conroe City Council Elections: Incumbents Re-elected

Conroe City Council incumbents Harry Hardman (Place 1) and Todd Yancey (Place 2) won re-election on May 4, avoiding runoffs.
CONROE — The Conroe City Council will maintain its current trajectory following the May 4 municipal election, as both incumbents successfully turned back challengers to retain their respective seats.
According to unofficial results released by the Montgomery County Elections Office, both Place 1 Councilman Harry Hardman and Place 2 Councilman Thomas (Todd) Yancey secured enough support to avoid the uncertainty of a runoff election. Under city charter guidelines, candidates must receive more than 50% of the vote to claim victory outright.
In the Place 1 race, incumbent Harry Hardman fended off a challenge from David A. Hairel. Hardman captured 1,607 votes, representing 54.08% of the total, compared to 1,364 votes or 45.92% for Hairel. A total of 2,971 ballots were cast in this contest.
The Place 2 race provided the evening’s most dramatic margin. Incumbent Todd Yancey narrowly retained his seat against former Councilman Curt Maddux. Yancey secured 1,515 votes, or 50.55%, edging out Maddux, who trailed by just 35 votes with a total of 1,480, or 49.45%. Participation in the Place 2 race was slightly higher, with 2,995 total votes recorded.
The results ensure continuity for a council currently navigating significant regional issues, including the city’s rapid population growth, infrastructure upgrades and ongoing debates regarding downtown revitalization projects. Both Hardman and Yancey have emphasized fiscal responsibility and public safety during their campaigns.
For challenger Curt Maddux, the narrow loss marks the end of a bid to return to the dais, having previously served on the council until his departure in 2022. The close margin in the Place 2 race reflects a divided electorate regarding the direction of the city’s leadership.
While the figures remain unofficial until the City Council meets to canvass the returns, the margins are sufficient to confirm that no recount or runoff will be necessary.
The re-elected council members are scheduled to be officially sworn in during the next Conroe City Council meeting. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 9, at Conroe City Hall, located at 300 W. Davis St. The meeting is open to the public, and residents are invited to attend to witness the commencement of the new terms.
