Conroe Crash: FM 1485, I-69 Closed for Hazmat

CONROE, TX - A major multi-vehicle collision snarled traffic for several hours on New Year’s Eve, forcing a complete shutdown of a key intersection in East Montgomery County.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, December 31, at the intersection of FM 1485 and I-69, also known locally as U.S. 59. The crash site, located directly in front of the Shell gas station in the busy New Caney/Conroe corridor, drew a heavy response from emergency personnel.
Units from the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene to find a chaotic situation. Officials confirmed that the impact was severe enough to eject at least one individual from a vehicle involved in the crash. The victim was treated on-site by responding paramedics before being transported to a nearby medical facility for emergency care.
The scope of the incident necessitated a large-scale road closure. Authorities shut down both directions of FM 1485 at the interchange, as well as the southbound lanes of I-69. The scene grew further complicated when emergency responders identified a significant diesel fuel spill resulting from the collision, prompting a call for a hazardous materials team to neutralize the potential environmental threat and roadway hazard.
Motorists in the area experienced substantial delays as law enforcement diverted traffic to allow for the cleanup and investigation. Officials warned drivers throughout the afternoon that the intersection would remain closed for several hours while investigators worked to piece together the events leading to the collision and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
Local traffic patterns in this area of Montgomery County have been under increased scrutiny due to heavy development and construction projects. Drivers are encouraged to check real-time traffic updates via the Texas Department of Transportation’s DriveTexas.org map or local traffic apps when traveling through major interchanges during peak holiday weekends.
As of Sunday evening, authorities had not released the identities of those involved or an update on the condition of the ejected victim. The crash remains under active investigation by local law enforcement.
