Conroe Elect Gains Global Insight at Rotary Convention
Conroe Rotary's incoming President, David Alexander, attended the Rotary International Convention in Singapore.
CONROE, Texas — David Alexander, the incoming President of the Rotary Club of Conroe, recently returned from the global stage in Singapore, where he participated in the 2024 Rotary International Convention. The event, held from May 25 through May 29, served as a cornerstone of his preparation before he officially assumes leadership of the local club on July 1.
Alexander attended the convention alongside his wife, Lori, joining more than 14,000 Rotarians from over 120 countries who gathered at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre to discuss the future of the humanitarian organization.
The convention provided a rare, high-level view of Rotary’s global footprint. Throughout the week, Alexander participated in workshops and plenary sessions centered on Rotary’s most ambitious goals, most notably the decades-long campaign to eradicate polio. Attendees also explored strategies for international peace-building and sustainable community development projects that address modern challenges in health, education, and the environment.
Beyond the formal programming, the trip offered a unique opportunity for cultural exchange. By networking with international delegates, Alexander gained insights into how different regions tackle similar community challenges—a perspective he intends to apply to Conroe.
It was inspiring to see firsthand the collective power of Rotarians from around the world dedicated to the motto Service Above Self, Alexander said. I am bringing back so many ideas and a sense of renewed energy to our Conroe club as we gear up for my presidential term.
As Alexander prepares to take the gavel this summer, his focus is shifting from global strategy to local impact. The Rotary Club of Conroe has long been a fixture in Montgomery County, spearheading initiatives that support local education through scholarships, stocking community food pantries, coordinating veterans’ assistance programs, and mentoring local youth through various service projects.
Local Rotarians say that Alexander’s experience in Singapore comes at an ideal time for the club. By aligning local outreach efforts with the global vision discussed in Singapore, Alexander hopes to streamline the club’s operations and increase the efficacy of their service to Conroe residents.
The Rotary Club of Conroe meets weekly, bringing together local business and community leaders to share expertise and organize volunteer efforts. Those interested in learning more about the club’s upcoming projects or how to join the organization can find more information at rotary.org or by visiting the club’s local digital presence at rotaryclubofconroe.org.
As July 1 approaches, the local leadership transition marks a continuation of the club's legacy of service, with Alexander’s new international perspective expected to breathe fresh life into the group's ongoing mission of improving the Conroe community one project at a time.
