Conroe ISD Surpasses State in 2026 STAAR Testing

Conroe ISD students significantly surpassed state averages on the Spring 2026 STAAR tests. 83% met "Approaches Grade Level" vs.
CONROE — Conroe Independent School District has solidified its position as an academic leader in Texas, with newly released state assessment data showing students outperforming their peers across the board.
Figures released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on June 22, 2026, confirm that Conroe ISD students significantly eclipsed statewide averages on the Spring 2026 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). The data, which tracks student mastery of state-mandated curriculum, shows the district maintaining a double-digit lead over state averages in several core benchmarks.
Overall, 83% of Conroe ISD students achieved the "Approaches Grade Level" standard—the state’s baseline for proficiency—compared to 74% statewide. The district’s performance becomes even more pronounced in higher achievement categories: 54% of CISD students reached the "Meets Grade Level" benchmark, outpacing the 43% statewide average, and 29% achieved "Masters Grade Level," effectively doubling the state’s 19%.
Conroe ISD Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null attributed the high marks to the continuity of instruction and the district’s targeted intervention strategies implemented throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
These results are a testament to the daily dedication of our teachers and the hard work of our students, Dr. Null said in a statement following the report. Seeing this level of success across the district reaffirms that our focus on personalized learning and robust support systems is effectively preparing our children for the next stage of their education.
The district’s strength was evident across a diverse array of subjects. In the high school assessment categories, Conroe ISD saw 78% of students reach proficiency in English I, compared to 69% statewide. Algebra I results were particularly strong, with 85% of CISD students hitting the "Approaches" mark, a nine-point lead over the state. In U.S. History, an overwhelming 94% of CISD students demonstrated proficiency, compared to 87% across Texas.
The achievement gap between Conroe ISD and the state average was also evident in elementary and middle school metrics. In fifth-grade math, 86% of CISD students reached the "Approaches" standard, well ahead of the 75% state average. Meanwhile, eighth-grade reading scores reflected an 88% proficiency rate in the district, compared to 77% across the rest of the state.
Education analysts note that these results come at a critical time for Montgomery County. As the district continues to manage significant population growth, maintaining high academic standards remains a top priority for the Board of Trustees.
The STAAR results serve as a primary indicator for the district’s performance ratings, which are issued annually by the TEA. While the official state accountability ratings are expected to be released in the fall, the current data provides a positive outlook for the district’s overall standing.
Parents and community members can review the full breakdown of district and campus-level performance by visiting the Texas Education Agency’s official accountability dashboard at txschools.gov. Additional reports detailing student growth and demographic performance metrics will be presented to the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees during their upcoming meeting in July.
