CONROE, Texas — A Montgomery County junior high school teacher is in custody following his arrest on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a development that has sent shockwaves through the Conroe Independent School District community.
Jacob Christian Davis, 25, was taken into custody by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, May 30, following an investigation into allegations involving a 14-year-old male student at York Junior High.
According to officials, the allegations involve inappropriate communications that occurred over several months. Conroe ISD administration stated they were first alerted to the situation on Wednesday, May 29. The district moved to place Davis on administrative leave immediately upon receiving the report.
"The safety and security of our students is our top priority," the district said in a statement released to parents. "We are fully cooperating with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office as they conduct their thorough investigation."
Davis appeared before Judge Cara Wood in the 284th District Court on Friday, May 31. His bond has been set at $500,000. As of the latest update, Davis remained in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.
The severity of the charges has prompted immediate action from district leadership. Conroe ISD has scheduled an emergency school board meeting for Monday, June 3, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Conroe ISD Administration Building, located at 3200 West Davis Street in Conroe. While the meeting agenda has not been publicly detailed, officials anticipate a significant turnout from concerned parents and community members seeking transparency and information regarding district safety protocols.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the matter. Authorities are urging the public to come forward if they have any information regarding Davis or his interactions with students. Those with information can contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800 or contact Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).
In light of the arrest, the district has encouraged families to monitor their email for further updates regarding counseling services or support resources that may be made available to students and staff at York Junior High.
As the investigation remains active, legal experts note that the charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child is a first-degree felony in Texas, which carries potential penalties ranging from five to 99 years or life in prison upon conviction.
