Conroe ISD Teachers Get Record Innovation Grants

Conroe ISD Education Foundation awarded a record $662,560 in Fall 2023 grants. Over 350 educators on 60 campuses received funds for 150+ creative
CONROE, TX — Teachers across Conroe Independent School District (CISD) are kicking off the academic year with a significant infusion of resources, as the Conroe ISD Education Foundation announced a record-breaking $662,560 in grant funding for the Fall 2023 cycle.
From October 18 through October 20, the foundation’s signature "Surprise Patrol"—a traveling caravan of foundation board members, district administrators, and community supporters—visited 60 campuses to deliver the news in person. The distribution included over 150 individual grants, directly impacting more than 350 educators across the district.
The foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, focuses on bridging the gap between standard district budgets and the creative, hands-on learning experiences that teachers envision for their students. By providing funds for materials, technology, and specialized equipment that would otherwise be unavailable, the foundation aims to elevate the standard of classroom engagement.
Among the projects funded this cycle are several unique initiatives designed to address both academic and social-emotional needs. At Runnels Elementary, students are set to benefit from a "science lab on wheels," allowing for mobile, hands-on experimentation. Meanwhile, the district’s H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Pupils Excel) program, which serves students with specialized behavioral and academic needs, received funding for "Therapy Dog Tuesday." This initiative integrates animal-assisted therapy into the school week, a practice shown to reduce anxiety and improve student morale.
"These grants empower teachers to bring creative ideas to life in their classrooms," said Julie Leuck, Executive Director of the Conroe ISD Education Foundation. "When we see the reaction from our teachers and students during the Surprise Patrol, it reinforces why we do what we do. These aren't just gadgets or supplies; these are tools that change the trajectory of a student’s day."
The scale of this year’s disbursement reflects a growing momentum for the foundation, which has become an essential pillar for the district. Conroe ISD Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null credited the community’s consistent support for the record-breaking total.
"The Education Foundation plays a vital role in fostering educational excellence within our district," Dr. Null said. "The generosity of our community partners allows our teachers to go above and beyond the standard curriculum, ensuring our students have access to world-class learning experiences."
The capital for these grants is raised throughout the year via private donations, corporate partnerships, and high-profile community events. The foundation’s annual Boots & Bling Gala, which serves as a major fundraiser for classroom innovation, remains one of the most significant contributors to the grant pool.
Since its inception, the Conroe ISD Education Foundation has invested millions of dollars into the district. The organization operates independently of the school district, allowing it to leverage local philanthropy to address specific classroom needs that fall outside the scope of property tax-funded budgets.
