Conroe Pedestrian Critical After Collision

Conroe Pedestrian Critical After Collision

A female pedestrian is in critical condition after a car struck her late Monday night in Conroe at FM 3083 East and Towerwood Drive.

CONROE, Texas — A pedestrian remains in critical condition following a severe auto-pedestrian collision that shut down a major Conroe artery for several hours late Monday night.

The Conroe Police Department reported that the incident occurred just before 9:00 p.m. on September 11 at the intersection of FM 3083 East and Towerwood Drive. According to preliminary findings from investigators, a white Kia Forte was traveling along the roadway when it struck a female pedestrian.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the collision and provided medical intervention at the scene before transporting the woman to a local hospital. Officials confirmed Tuesday morning that she remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Kia Forte did not flee the scene. Law enforcement officials noted that the motorist remained present following the impact and has been fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. As of Tuesday, no charges have been filed against the driver, and the Conroe Police Department’s accident reconstruction team continues to review evidence to determine the exact factors that led to the crash.

The incident caused a significant disruption to commuter traffic throughout the night. For several hours, authorities were forced to shut down the eastbound lanes of FM 3083 East just west of Towerwood Drive. Westbound traffic was restricted to a single lane, with officers rerouting vehicles through the center turn lane to maintain minimal flow. Drivers in the area faced substantial delays well into the night, with many forced to seek alternate routes through side streets in the surrounding residential areas.

Safety advocates have long pointed to the FM 3083 corridor as a high-traffic area that presents challenges for pedestrians. The intersection, located near several residential communities, experiences high volumes of commuter traffic during evening hours. While the investigation into this specific incident is ongoing, Conroe police are using this event to remind motorists and pedestrians alike to remain vigilant.

"Pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility," said a spokesperson for the department. "We urge drivers to maintain a heightened level of awareness in low-light conditions and remind pedestrians to utilize designated crosswalks and wear reflective clothing whenever possible."

The Conroe Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has relevant dashcam footage to contact their non-emergency line at 936-522-3200. The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

For updates on traffic conditions and road closures throughout the Conroe area, residents are encouraged to monitor the department’s official social media channels or visit the city’s traffic management portal at cityofconroe.org.
