Conroe Rotary Elect Brings Global Vision Home

Conroe Rotary President-elect Carolyn Johnson returned from Singapore's global convention inspired by "people-centered service." She'll apply this vision,
CONROE, Texas — As she prepares to take the helm of the Conroe Rotary Club on July 1, President-elect Carolyn Johnson is returning from the global stage with a renewed vision for local service. Johnson recently concluded an immersive five-day experience at the 2024 Rotary International Convention in Singapore, an event that drew more than 14,000 members from 120 countries to the Sands Expo and Convention Centre from May 25 to 29.
Accompanied by her husband, Terry Johnson, a fellow member of the Conroe chapter, Carolyn used the convention as a strategic launchpad for her upcoming term. The annual gathering serves as the organization’s primary forum for setting the agenda for the global Rotary network, which comprises 1.4 million members across 46,000 clubs worldwide.
The convention provided a comprehensive look at the international organization's pillars of service, including disease prevention, literacy, environmental sustainability, and economic development. Through a series of high-level keynote speeches and breakout sessions, attendees explored how to scale global humanitarian goals to the local level.
A focal point of the event was the introduction of the 2024-2025 theme from incoming Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick: "The Magic of Rotary." Urchick’s vision centers on "people-centered service," a philosophy that encourages clubs to move beyond broad initiatives to focus on the unique, tangible impacts they can have on individual lives within their specific communities.
For Johnson, this theme provides a clear blueprint for her leadership in Conroe.
The Magic of Rotary is really about those individual connections we make every day, Johnson said. Seeing the passion of 14,000 people from all over the world coming together for the common good was incredibly inspiring. I am coming home with a renewed commitment to people-centered service and fostering stronger local connections right here in Conroe.
Beyond the formal sessions, the Johnsons spent time in the House of Friendship, a sprawling exhibition space that functions as the convention’s networking hub. The space allows Rotarians to exchange ideas, share project successes, and forge collaborations that often span across borders and oceans.
As she transitions into the president’s role this summer, Johnson intends to leverage the inspiration and resources gathered in Singapore to revitalize the Conroe club’s local outreach. Rotary International remains one of the world's most influential service organizations, famously known for its long-standing efforts to eradicate polio and its commitment to fostering peace through humanitarian aid.
The Conroe Rotary Club has long been a fixture of the local community, contributing to various educational and civic initiatives. Members and community leaders are invited to learn more about the club’s plans for the coming year at their weekly meetings. The group meets every Thursday at noon at the Conroe Holiday Inn.
For those interested in membership or learning about upcoming service projects, further information can be found at the club’s website or by attending an upcoming luncheon.
