Conroe Rotary President-Elect Attends Global Convention

Conroe Rotary's incoming president, Rodney Pool, attended the global convention in Melbourne.
CONROE, Texas — As the Rotary Club of Conroe prepares for a transition in leadership, incoming president Rodney Pool is bringing a global perspective back to Montgomery County following an immersive experience at the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia.
The five-day event, held May 27 through May 31, served as a massive convening for the service organization, drawing attendees from more than 200 countries and geographical areas. The convention serves as the annual heartbeat of the organization, which currently boasts a membership of 1.4 million people dedicated to community and humanitarian service.
Pool, who is set to officially assume the presidency of the Conroe club on July 1, attended the convention alongside former club president Gordon McDougall. For Pool, the trip provided both a bird’s-eye view of the organization’s massive international footprint and a chance to glean practical strategies for local implementation.
The convention reinforced the core pillars of Rotary’s humanitarian efforts: the long-standing mission to eradicate polio, the expansion of clean water and sanitation access, the promotion of peace, educational advocacy, and maternal and child health initiatives.
While the scale of global service was inspiring, Pool spent much of the trip focusing on the mechanics of club management. He noted that he was particularly interested in learning how international counterparts approach complex fundraising campaigns. Furthermore, he expressed a keen interest in the organization’s "Youth Exchange Program," which facilitates international cultural exchanges for students. Pool said he is currently exploring how these strategies could be adapted to strengthen the Conroe club’s ongoing local and international service projects.
The Rotary Club of Conroe has long been a fixture in the local nonprofit landscape, supporting a variety of civic needs. Pool’s ascent to the presidency marks a new chapter for the local chapter as he succeeds current president Beth St. Raymond.
The transition comes at a time when the Rotary Club of Conroe continues to integrate into the broader goals of Rotary International. By participating in global forums like the Melbourne convention, local leaders like Pool ensure that Conroe remains connected to a worldwide network of resources and humanitarian strategies.
