County Republican Women Award Record $53K Scholarships

The Montgomery County Republican Women's Club awarded a record $53,000 in scholarships to 25 local high school seniors.
CONROE, Texas — The Montgomery County Republican Women’s Club (MCRWC) marked a historic achievement in its six-decade history this month, distributing a record-breaking $53,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors across the county.
The announcement was made during the organization’s monthly luncheon on May 23, held at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center in Conroe. The event served as both a celebration of the class of 2024 and a testament to the growth of the club’s philanthropic reach.
In total, 25 students were selected from a deep pool of applicants to receive funding for their post-secondary education. The MCRWC provided $10,000 of the total, awarding two students $5,000 each. The remaining $43,000 was provided through the collaborative efforts of four affiliate groups: the Lake Conroe Republican Women, the Republican Women of the Woodlands, the North Shore Republican Women, and the Westside Republican Women.
The scholarships are the culmination of a rigorous evaluation process. Applicants were required to maintain strong academic records and demonstrate active engagement in their local communities. A critical component of the selection process was the submission of essays outlining the students' perspectives on conservative principles and their dedication to civic responsibility.
U.S. Congressman Morgan Luttrell, who represents Texas’ 8th Congressional District, served as the keynote speaker for the luncheon, highlighting the importance of the next generation’s involvement in the American political process.
MCRWC President Carol Taggart and Scholarship Chair Debbie Fickel, who oversaw the distribution program, emphasized that the awards are intended to support students who show promise as future community and national leaders.
The MCRWC, which was chartered in 1964, has long prioritized educational support as a core pillar of its mission. Since the club first established its scholarship program in 1993, it has provided more than $500,000 to over 300 students. This year’s $53,000 disbursement represents the largest single-year total in the program’s 31-year history.
Local officials and club members view the milestone as a sign of the organization’s deepening roots in Montgomery County. The funds are raised throughout the year via various community events, private donations, and membership-led initiatives aimed at supporting local education.
