FM 1485 Closed After Semi-Truck Crash, Fuel Spill

CONROE, Texas - A significant traffic collision involving a commercial semi-truck and a pickup truck forced the closure of FM 1485 in East Montgomery County for several hours on Tuesday morning, creating extensive delays for commuters near the Loop 494 intersection.

The crash occurred late Tuesday morning, drawing a heavy response from local emergency agencies. First responders from the Caney Creek Fire Department and the Montgomery County Hospital District arrived on the scene to find both vehicles heavily damaged. Authorities confirmed that at least one individual was transported to a nearby medical facility via ground ambulance. Officials stated that the victim sustained injuries that are considered non-life-threatening.

The severity of the wreck necessitated a complete shutdown of FM 1485 in both directions. The Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable's Office assisted in establishing a perimeter and rerouting traffic through adjacent surface streets, though motorists faced substantial gridlock throughout the morning hours.

The cleanup operation proved to be complex, requiring the mobilization of specialized HAZMAT teams. According to reports from the scene, the semi-truck sustained a ruptured fuel tank, resulting in a significant diesel spill that crews had to contain to prevent environmental damage to the surrounding area. Furthermore, a large load of lumber being hauled by one of the vehicles spilled across the roadway, requiring heavy machinery to clear the debris before the lanes could be reopened.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has taken over the investigation into the cause of the collision. As of Wednesday, investigators have not released information regarding potential citations or the specific sequence of events that led to the impact.

FM 1485 is a major artery for local commuters and heavy industrial traffic in Conroe, often serving as a primary route for heavy transport vehicles moving between the interstate and rural parts of the county. Local officials frequently urge drivers to maintain increased following distances when traveling near semi-trucks, which require significantly longer braking distances than passenger vehicles.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor real-time traffic updates through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) website at drivetexas.org for any lingering lane restrictions or road work in the area. Updates regarding the investigation will be provided as they become available from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
