FM 3083 Closed in Grangerland Until Late 2024

CONROE: FM 3083 in Grangerland closed June 10 until late 2024 between N Williams Rd & Jefferson Chemical Rd to replace the deficient Caney Creek bridge

CONROE, Texas — Commuters traveling through the Grangerland area are facing significant disruptions as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officially began a major infrastructure project this week, resulting in a total closure of a segment of FM 3083.

Effective Monday, June 10, officials closed a stretch of FM 3083 between North Williams Road and Jefferson Chemical Road. The closure is not a temporary inconvenience; TxDOT confirmed the route will remain inaccessible to through traffic for the remainder of the calendar year as crews work to replace the aging Caney Creek bridge.

State engineers determined that the existing bridge structure had become deficient, necessitating a full replacement to ensure long-term safety and accommodate the growing traffic volume in Montgomery County. The $3.7 million project has been awarded to Lonergan Construction Corp., a firm that will be tasked with demolishing the current span and constructing a new, modern bridge designed to meet current safety standards.

For residents who rely on this route for their daily commute, the closure necessitates a substantial detour. TxDOT has outlined the following navigation plan:

Eastbound traffic on FM 3083 will be diverted north onto North Williams Road, instructed to travel east along FM 1485, and then directed south on Jefferson Chemical Road to reconnect with FM 3083. Westbound motorists will follow the inverse path, utilizing Jefferson Chemical Road north, FM 1485 west, and North Williams Road south to return to the main thoroughfare.

Local law enforcement and project managers are urging drivers to exercise caution in the construction zone and to factor in significant delays when planning their trips. With FM 3083 serving as a critical artery for the Grangerland area, traffic volume on the detour routes—particularly FM 1485—is expected to increase substantially during peak hours.

This project is part of a broader ongoing effort by TxDOT to address aging infrastructure across the Houston District. The agency regularly updates progress on state-funded road projects through their official website. Drivers are encouraged to monitor the TxDOT Houston District Twitter feed or the DriveTexas.org interactive map for real-time traffic updates and any potential changes to the project timeline.

While the construction is slated to conclude by late 2024, completion dates remain subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen logistical challenges. Residents are advised to add extra travel time to their morning and evening commutes while work on the Caney Creek crossing continues.
