Houston Methodist Woodlands adds 700 parking spaces

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital broke ground on a $26.5M parking project. By Q3 2025, Garage 3 will gain 700 spaces and a skybridge, easing

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital has officially broken ground on a $26.5 million parking infrastructure project, a major capital investment aimed at accommodating the rapid influx of patients and staff at its I-45 campus.

The project, which launched in the second quarter of 2024, focuses on a significant vertical expansion of the hospital’s Garage 3. Once completed in the third quarter of 2025, the facility will provide 700 additional parking spaces, a move designed to alleviate long-standing congestion issues that have accompanied the hospital’s aggressive growth in northern Harris and Montgomery counties.

The expansion is more than a simple increase in vehicle capacity. Central to the plan is the construction of a new climate-controlled skybridge. This elevated walkway will link the second floor of the patient tower directly to the hospital’s main lobby, creating a streamlined, weather-protected path for patients and their families.

For Debbie Sukin, CEO of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, the expansion represents a commitment to the patient experience that extends beyond clinical care.

We recognize that the hospital experience begins the moment a patient pulls onto our campus, Sukin said in a statement. Providing convenient and accessible parking is an essential part of delivering the high-quality care our community expects. By reducing the time and stress associated with finding a parking spot, we allow our patients to focus entirely on their health and recovery.

The Woodlands campus, located at 17201 I-45 S, has undergone several phases of expansion since its opening in 2017 to keep pace with the region's surging population. The hospital has consistently added specialized medical services, including recent advancements in neurosciences, cardiovascular care, and orthopedics, which have driven higher daily patient volumes.

The decision to invest in the garage expansion aligns with broader growth trends in The Woodlands area, where medical infrastructure is expanding to serve as a hub for the north Houston suburbs. Industry analysts note that as hospitals become larger, more complex campuses, parking and wayfinding have become critical components of healthcare operations.

Construction crews are currently active on-site. Hospital officials have stated that they are working to minimize disruption to daily operations, though visitors are encouraged to follow updated signage as traffic patterns shift throughout the remainder of the construction phase.
