Hwy 242 Collision Injures Rider, Closes Lanes

CONROE, Texas – Traffic along the heavily congested Highway 242 corridor came to a standstill Thursday afternoon following a severe collision between a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on July 2, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 242, also known as College Park Drive, and Trade Center Boulevard. According to the Conroe Police Department, the collision involved a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan and a black Kawasaki motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation reports suggest the driver of the Mercedes-Benz was attempting a left-hand turn onto Trade Center Boulevard when the vehicle entered the path of the Kawasaki, which was traveling eastbound on Highway 242. The resulting impact forced an immediate emergency response, drawing personnel from the Conroe Fire Department, Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) EMS, and Conroe police officers.

First responders arriving on the scene reported that the operator of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries, including a fractured leg and internal trauma. The rider was stabilized by MCHD medics on-site before being transported via ambulance to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center. As of Friday morning, officials have not released an updated condition report, though the victim remains under medical supervision.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was evaluated by emergency crews at the scene and was reported to be physically uninjured.

The crash forced the closure of all eastbound lanes of Highway 242 for more than an hour during the height of the evening commute. Motorists faced significant delays as law enforcement officers rerouted traffic and conducted a forensic reconstruction of the accident scene. The roadway was reopened to regular traffic shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Conroe Police Department investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities confirmed that potential charges are currently pending based on the final findings of the case.

Highway 242 is a critical artery for the Montgomery County area, connecting major residential developments and commercial hubs near The Woodlands and Conroe. The stretch near Trade Center Boulevard has historically seen high traffic volumes and frequent turning movements, leading local officials to monitor the intersection closely for safety improvements.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has relevant dashboard camera footage to contact the Conroe Police Department traffic division at 936-522-3200. Updates regarding the case will be posted to the department's official portal at cityofconroe.org as they become available.
