I-45/Hwy 242 Crash Snarls Conroe Morning Commute

CONROE, TX — A major traffic snarl impacted morning commuters in Conroe on Tuesday, March 26, following a multi-vehicle collision that forced lane closures near the intersection of FM 1488 and Interstate 45.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. at the eastbound FM 1488—locally identified as Highway 242—underpass at the I-45 frontage road. Preliminary reports from the scene confirmed that at least one heavy-duty truck and one passenger vehicle were involved in the wreck.

Emergency personnel from the Conroe Fire Department, Conroe Police Department, and the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) arrived on-site within minutes to secure the area and provide medical evaluations. While the specific identities of those involved have not been released by authorities, medical teams were observed assessing participants for injuries.

The crash resulted in significant delays for those traveling through the I-45 corridor during the peak morning rush. Both eastbound FM 1488 and the adjacent I-45 frontage road experienced major congestion as law enforcement blocked traffic to facilitate the investigation and the removal of the wreckage.

Tow crews were dispatched promptly to clear the debris. Officials worked to reopen the lanes as quickly as possible to alleviate the backup, which extended for several miles during the height of the morning commute.

The intersection of FM 1488 and I-45 is one of the busiest traffic hubs in Montgomery County, frequently cited by local commuters for heavy volume during peak hours. Conroe Police have not yet released an official cause for the collision, and the incident remains under investigation.

Drivers are encouraged to check real-time traffic updates via the Texas Department of Transportation’s DriveTexas website at drivetexas.org or monitor local traffic reporting services for information on road conditions. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution when navigating the I-45 frontage roads and to follow local law enforcement directives when approaching crash sites.

Authorities have not provided an update on the condition of those involved, but police noted that the scene was cleared and traffic flow returned to normal by late morning.
