Lone Star Family Health Center Adds Vision

Lone Star Family Health Center has launched a new vision care department at its Conroe clinic, led by Dr. Michael P. Bell.

CONROE, Texas — Lone Star Family Health Center (LSFHC) is set to significantly broaden its healthcare footprint in Montgomery County with the launch of a new, comprehensive vision care department. The service will officially begin seeing patients at the organization’s main clinic, located at 605 South Conroe Medical Drive, on Monday, November 13th.

The expansion comes as part of a strategic effort by the Federally Qualified Health Center to bridge the gap in affordable, accessible eye care for the region’s most vulnerable populations. By integrating vision services directly into their existing medical facility, LSFHC aims to create a "one-stop shop" model that simplifies the patient experience and encourages better long-term health outcomes.

Leading the new department is optometrist Dr. Michael P. Bell. Dr. Bell will oversee a robust suite of services, ranging from standard routine eye exams to more specialized care, including diabetic eye screenings and glaucoma testing. In addition to clinical diagnostics, the center will feature an on-site optical shop, allowing patients to be fitted for and purchase prescription glasses and contact lenses in a single visit.

The initiative is backed by a $100,000 grant from St. Luke’s Health Memorial Lufkin. These funds were instrumental in the build-out of the facility, which includes two fully equipped exam lanes and state-of-the-art diagnostic technology.

"Access to vision care is a critical component of overall health, particularly for managing chronic conditions like diabetes," said a spokesperson for LSFHC. "This expansion allows us to provide high-quality eye care to our patients, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent them from maintaining their vision and health."

The clinic intends to serve a wide demographic, with a primary mission of supporting low-income and uninsured residents in Conroe and the surrounding Montgomery County area. To ensure the services remain widely available, the center will accept Medicaid, Medicare, and a variety of private insurance plans.

Before the official launch on November 13th, the public is invited to attend a grand opening celebration this Thursday, November 9th. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 605 South Conroe Medical Drive location, offering community members a chance to tour the new facility and meet the clinical team.
