Man Jailed After Kidnapping, Running Over Estranged Wife

MAGNOLIA, Texas — A 35-year-old man remains in custody following a violent domestic abduction and assault in Montgomery County that left his estranged wife hospitalized with severe injuries.

John Allen Baker was taken into custody on June 16 in the city of Magnolia by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently facing new charges of aggravated kidnapping and assault of a family or house member by impeding breath or circulation.

The incident began on the afternoon of June 15 near the 10000 block of FM 1488. According to Detective C. Jaggers of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Baker confronted his estranged wife, Monica Baker, and allegedly forced her into his black Ford F-150 pickup truck at gunpoint.

As the vehicle was in motion along FM 1488, Monica Baker managed to escape the truck by jumping from the moving vehicle. Investigators state that John Allen Baker then allegedly drove over the woman’s legs and pelvis before fleeing the scene.

Bystanders in the area discovered the victim shortly after the incident and contacted emergency services. She was transported to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, where she was treated for serious injuries. Her current medical status has not been publicly released, though officials confirmed her condition was critical at the time of transport.

Following the violent encounter, Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack issued warrants for Baker’s arrest. When local authorities apprehended him the following day, they discovered that Baker was already a wanted man.

Records from the Harris County District Clerk’s Office confirm that Baker had several outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest, including pending charges for robbery, aggravated assault, and felony theft.

Baker is being held at the Montgomery County Jail. Judge Mack set the bond for each of the two new felony charges at $150,000, totaling $300,000. He remains ineligible for bond regarding his previous outstanding warrants from Harris County.

The investigation into the June 15 incident is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage from the 10000 block of FM 1488 during the afternoon of June 15 to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800.

For those affected by domestic violence, resources are available. The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides 24/7 support and can be reached by calling 800-799-7233 or by texting "START" to 88788. Local assistance can also be found through the Montgomery County Women’s Center at 936-441-7273.
