MCABW: 20 Years Empowering Women in Business

MCABW: 20 Years Empowering Women in Business

MONTGOMERY, Texas – The Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCABW) marked a significant milestone on March 12, 2024, celebrating two decades of professional advocacy and community service with a gala event at The Loft at The Vintage House. The anniversary celebration served as both a retrospective of the organization’s history and a look toward its future in the expanding Montgomery County economy.

Founded in August 2004, the association began with a modest group of eight women seeking a supportive network in an often male-dominated business landscape. Carol Gooch, the organization’s founder, reflected on those early days during the anniversary event, noting that what started as a small, informal gathering has blossomed into a influential entity currently boasting more than 100 active members.

Theresa Wagaman, who took the helm as MCABW president in 2023, emphasized that the core mission remains unchanged after twenty years. The organization focuses on promoting sustainable business growth, facilitating meaningful professional networking, and providing ongoing education for its members. The group maintains a consistent schedule of monthly luncheon meetings, typically held on the second Tuesday of each month, which feature industry leaders and guest speakers intended to foster both personal and professional development.

A highlight of the anniversary celebration was the keynote address by Dr. Julie Anderson, the association's first-ever scholarship recipient. Her participation served as a testament to the group’s long-standing commitment to educational philanthropy. Over the past two decades, MCABW has prioritized financial support for women pursuing career advancement, viewing education as a cornerstone of economic independence.

The event also honored the collective leadership of the organization, paying tribute to the various women who have served as president since 2004. Attendees enjoyed live musical performances by Anthony Pitt and Jeremy Bates, underscoring the organization's role as a hub for local culture as well as commerce.

Beyond its focus on networking and business development, MCABW has established itself as a philanthropic leader in the region. The group frequently partners with prominent local non-profits, including Inspiration Ranch and the Breast Cancer Charities of America. These partnerships are often fueled by the organization’s signature annual fundraiser, "Table Talk," which brings together community leaders to support local causes.

As the association looks toward the next decade, its leadership aims to continue expanding its reach to meet the needs of a growing Montgomery County. With a focus on economic vitality and mentorship, the MCABW remains a fixture in the local professional landscape, inviting prospective members to learn more about upcoming meetings and membership criteria at their website, www.mcabw.org.
