Montgomery Church Renames, Relocates

Montgomery Church Renames, Relocates

MONTGOMERY, Texas – After 148 years of service to the Montgomery community, a historic congregation is entering a new chapter. This month, the First Baptist Church of Montgomery officially transitioned to its new identity as Montgomery Community Church, marking a significant shift in both name and physical footprint.

The congregation, which traces its roots back to 1875, has officially moved from its long-standing home on Pond Street to a sprawling 18-acre campus located at 24285 Walden Road. The relocation represents a massive expansion for the church, more than doubling the size of the previous 8-acre property.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony of the new facility on Sunday, October 29, at 10:30 a.m.

For lead pastor Rev. Greg Langley, who has shepherded the congregation for 14 years, the change is about aligning the church’s identity with its evolving role in the region. According to Langley, the name change to Montgomery Community Church is intended to better reflect a mission focused on broader outreach, signaling a more inclusive approach that transcends specific denominational labels.

The necessity of the move was driven by the practical limitations of the church's historic site. As the population of Montgomery County continues to surge, the aging Pond Street facility reached capacity, struggling to accommodate the growing number of local families attending services.

The new Walden Road campus was designed specifically to facilitate this growth. It features a modern 400-seat sanctuary, significantly expanded classroom facilities for children and adult education, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and versatile multi-purpose spaces intended for community events and congregational fellowship.

The transition marks a bittersweet departure from the downtown area where the church operated for nearly a century and a half. However, church leadership emphasizes that the move is an investment in the future of the ministry.

Montgomery Community Church will maintain its traditional schedule of Sunday services, with worship gatherings held at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the new location.
