**I-45 Traffic Stop Uncovers Half-Million Dollar Drug Haul in Montgomery County; Driver Charged**

**MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX** – A routine traffic stop last Wednesday, May 22nd, on Interstate 45 in Montgomery County quickly escalated into a significant drug seizure, resulting in the confiscation of an estimated $500,000 worth of methamphetamine and fentanyl. The operation, conducted by deputies with the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office, also led to the arrest of the tractor-trailer driver.

Deputies initiated the stop on a 2007 LoneStar tractor-trailer along I-45, near FM 830, for a minor traffic infraction. During the interaction, deputies observed indicators consistent with criminal activity, prompting them to deploy K9 Cash, a specialized canine unit from the Precinct 1 Constable's Office.

K9 Cash positively alerted to the presence of narcotics, establishing probable cause for a thorough search of the commercial vehicle. Inside the truck's cab and sleeper compartment, officers made a substantial discovery: approximately 114 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and about 10.5 pounds of suspected fentanyl.

The driver, identified as 48-year-old Christopher Lopez, was immediately taken into custody. Lopez has since been charged with two felony counts of manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail on a $150,000 bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.

Constable Philip Cash lauded his deputies for their vigilance and the successful interdiction. "This substantial seizure prevents a significant quantity of dangerous drugs, particularly fentanyl, from reaching our community and potentially saving lives," Constable Cash stated. "I-45 is a known corridor for illicit trafficking, and our deputies, alongside K9 Cash, are on the front lines protecting our residents from the devastating impact of these narcotics. This operation highlights our ongoing commitment to combating drug distribution in Montgomery County."

The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs underscores the scale of the operation. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, is a major contributor to the ongoing overdose crisis nationwide. Even small amounts can be lethal, making its removal from circulation a critical public safety achievement. Similarly, methamphetamine continues to pose significant health and societal challenges.

This bust reflects the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office's proactive approach to disrupting drug trafficking routes that utilize major highways like I-45, which serves as a key transportation artery connecting various metropolitan areas.

Lopez's case will proceed through the Montgomery County court system. For further information, the public can refer to official reports from the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office and court records available through the Montgomery County District Clerk's Office.
