Montgomery Fair Youth Auctions Set $1.7M Record

Montgomery Fair Youth Auctions Set $1.7M Record

Montgomery County Fair youth auctions hit a new record, raising $1.7 million, surpassing the 2022 high.

CONROE, Texas — The Montgomery County Fair has officially closed its books on a historic season, announcing that its youth auctions raised a staggering $1.7 million, marking a new all-time high for the organization.

The figure, which eclipses the previous record of $1,664,500 set in 2022, represents more than just a financial milestone—it serves as a direct investment into the future of Montgomery County’s youth. The funds were generated during the centerpiece events of the fair, held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on April 12 and 13.

The youth auction program, which encompasses the Livestock Auction, the Junior Non-Livestock Auction, and the popular Calf Scramble, serves as the culmination of months of labor for students involved in FFA and 4-H. Participants spend the better part of the academic year raising livestock or perfecting non-livestock projects ranging from intricate welding and woodworking to competitive photography.

Beyond the record-breaking total, the fair board confirmed that 23 individual division records were shattered this year, signaling a significant increase in the quality of projects and the generosity of local donors.

Among the standout transactions, the Grand Champion Steer, exhibited by Ashlynn Alldredge, commanded a top bid of $55,000 from Saddle Creek Land & Cattle. Maci Carter’s Grand Champion Market Hog followed, selling for $40,000 to a group operating under the name "Montgomery County for Maci."

Other notable results included the Grand Champion Market Lamb, shown by Brooklyn DeHaven, which sold for $25,000 to the Friends of Jason Millsaps. The Grand Champion Market Goat, shown by Hannah Goerig, brought in $20,000, purchased by a consortium including the Friends of Jason Millsaps, The Woodlands Resort, and Western Heritage Furniture. Poultry categories also saw high participation, with Cole Williams’ Grand Champion Market Broiler pen selling for $14,000 and Kaden Cagle’s Grand Champion Market Turkey fetching $10,000.

The Montgomery County Fair, which ran from April 5 through April 14, has long served as a vital community hub for agricultural education. The proceeds from these auctions are often earmarked by the students for college tuition, vocational training, or the capital needed to begin their next year’s agricultural projects.

“This is about more than selling an animal,” said a fair representative. “It’s about teaching responsibility, financial literacy, and the importance of supporting our local kids who are working to become the next generation of agriculture leaders.”

The success of this year’s auction is widely attributed to the high turnout of local business sponsors and individual donors, who continue to show a strong commitment to the rural heritage and youth development programs that define Montgomery County.
