Montgomery H-E-B Opening Expected Late 2026

Montgomery H-E-B Opening Expected Late 2026

MONTGOMERY, Texas – Long-suffering shoppers in the communities surrounding the FM 1488 corridor can finally pencil a date into their calendars. The highly anticipated H-E-B grocery store, slated for the southwest corner of FM 1488 and Old Conroe Road, is now projected to open its doors in late 2026.

The new facility, spanning approximately 100,000 square feet, is designed to serve a rapidly expanding population that has frequently cited a lack of major grocery options as a primary challenge to local quality of life. For residents of nearby subdivisions such as Woodforest and Pine Market, the store will drastically reduce commute times for daily necessities.

Development momentum has increased significantly over the past several months. According to public records filed with Montgomery County, developers submitted a comprehensive Traffic Impact Analysis and a formal wetland delineation report in October 2023. These technical assessments represent critical milestones in the land-use and permitting process, signaling that the project has moved past the conceptual phase and into the infrastructure planning stage.

Industry analysts estimate that construction will likely commence between late 2024 and early 2025. Given the scale of the facility, the construction phase is expected to take between 18 and 24 months, keeping the project on track for the target opening in the final quarter of 2026.

This development is part of a larger commercial transformation for the specific intersection at FM 1488 and Old Conroe Road. Montgomery County officials have already granted approvals for additional retail infrastructure at the site, including a new Circle K convenience store and a Taco Bell, which will join the H-E-B in anchoring the commercial hub.

The addition of this store continues a trend of rapid expansion for the San Antonio-based retailer across Montgomery County. In recent years, H-E-B has opened locations in Oak Ridge North in 2022 and at Harper's Preserve in 2023. However, this specific location has been the subject of intense local speculation for years, as the area’s residential growth has outpaced the development of essential retail services.

Local stakeholders view the H-E-B project as a primary catalyst for further economic development in the region. As the population continues to surge, the commercial corridor along FM 1488 is expected to attract more service-oriented businesses to support the influx of families moving into the northern Houston suburbs.

Updates regarding construction timelines and potential job fairs for the new store are expected to be released through the official H-E-B Newsroom portal at newsroom.heb.com as the site preparation phase begins.
