Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down FM 1097 in Montgomery

Montgomery, TX: A major multi-vehicle accident closed FM 1097 near N. Pine Lake Rd. Crews used Jaws of Life to free a trapped person; injured were taken

MONTGOMERY, Texas — A major multi-vehicle accident forced the total closure of FM 1097 in Montgomery on Thursday afternoon, snarling traffic and drawing a heavy response from emergency personnel.

The incident occurred near the intersection of FM 1097 and North Pine Lake Road, an area that has seen increased traffic congestion due to the ongoing growth of the Montgomery and Willis regions. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed the road was shut down in both directions between Old Danville Road and Pine Lake Road shortly after the crash was reported.

Montgomery Fire Department crews arrived on the scene to find a complex crash site involving multiple vehicles. Firefighters were forced to use specialized hydraulic rescue tools—commonly referred to as the "Jaws of Life"—to extricate at least one individual trapped inside their vehicle.

While an air medical helicopter was initially requested to provide emergency transport for the injured, dispatchers eventually canceled the air unit. Officials later indicated that victims requiring hospital care would be transported via ground ambulance to nearby facilities. The current condition of those involved has not been released by authorities.

The collision triggered a significant investigative response from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Troopers remained on the scene well into the evening hours, performing a reconstruction of the crash to determine the chain of events that led to the pileup.

The closure of this major thoroughfare caused significant delays for commuters heading toward Lake Conroe and surrounding residential developments. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control, diverting vehicles onto side streets. Motorists were advised to avoid the corridor entirely, with many drivers forced to reroute through secondary roads, causing backups that rippled throughout the local area.

As of Thursday evening, the Texas Department of Public Safety had not yet provided a definitive timeline for when the road would fully reopen, citing the necessity of clearing debris and completing the forensic investigation.

Local residents and regular commuters are encouraged to monitor the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) DriveTexas map at drivetexas.org for real-time updates on road closures and traffic conditions throughout the region.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information regarding the cause of the crash and the status of those involved is released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
