VA Express Stop Temporarily Relocating

VA Express Stop Temporarily Relocating

CONROE, Texas — Commuters who rely on the Conroe Connection Transit Express service to reach the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston will need to adjust their travel plans starting Monday, July 22, 2024.

Transit officials announced this week that the current Express Stop located at the main front entrance of the medical center at 2002 Holcombe Blvd. is being relocated due to ongoing campus construction. As the facility moves forward with extensive infrastructure improvements and expansion projects, the main entrance area must be cleared of passenger shuttle traffic to ensure safety and allow for heavy equipment access.

Effective July 22, all Conroe Connection Transit Express passengers will be directed to a temporary stop situated at the facility’s side entrance, located in close proximity to the Emergency Room.

This change is designated as a temporary measure while the Department of Veterans Affairs completes a broader modernization of the Houston campus. According to the VA, the medical center is currently in the process of designing and establishing a centralized, permanent transportation hub on-site. Once that project is finalized and the new hub is operational, Conroe Transit plans to move the Express stop to its permanent home.

The Conroe Connection Transit Express provides a vital link for veterans and employees traveling between Montgomery County and the Texas Medical Center district. Transit officials are urging riders to pay close attention to new signage that will be posted throughout the medical center campus starting next week to assist in navigating to the temporary location.

While there is currently no firm timeline for when the permanent hub will open, Conroe Transit officials have committed to providing updates as construction milestones are reached. Riders are encouraged to monitor the official Conroe Connection Transit website at cityofconroe.org for the latest service alerts and mapping updates.

For questions regarding specific route adjustments or transit scheduling, passengers can contact the Conroe Connection customer service center. Riders are advised to allow for extra time during their commute on the morning of July 22, as commuters adjust to the new traffic flow near the Emergency Room entrance.
