Roldan Evades Police in Mont Co. Chase

Roldan Evades Police in Mont Co. Chase

CONROE, Texas – A late-night traffic stop turned into a high-speed pursuit through Montgomery County on Monday, February 19, resulting in the arrest of a 38-year-old man.

Joseph Daniel Roldan is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle. According to the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, the incident began at approximately 11 p.m. when an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white pickup truck.

The vehicle was observed committing a traffic violation while traveling on Interstate 45 near the River Plantation area. Rather than complying with the officer's emergency lights, Roldan allegedly accelerated, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

The chase proceeded southbound on Interstate 45 before shifting eastbound onto FM 1488. The pursuit covered several miles as deputies followed the truck through the busy corridor. The incident concluded without injury when Roldan pulled his vehicle over near the intersection of FM 1488 and Kuykendahl Road, on the outskirts of The Woodlands.

Roldan was taken into custody by Precinct 1 deputies without further incident. A judge subsequently set his bond at $50,000. Public records indicate this is not Roldan's first interaction with law enforcement in the region, though court documents regarding his prior history remain under review.

Law enforcement officials noted that this incident highlights an ongoing concern regarding drivers who choose to flee from traffic enforcement. Data from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and local constables suggests a measurable uptick in felony evading arrests over the past twelve months. Officials emphasize that these pursuits pose significant risks to the public, officers, and the suspects themselves, often turning minor traffic citations into serious felony charges that carry mandatory prison time.

Under Texas Penal Code Section 38.04, evading arrest with a vehicle is a third-degree felony, punishable by two to ten years in prison. If a suspect causes serious bodily injury to another person while fleeing, the charge can be elevated to a second-degree felony.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the initial traffic violation is ongoing. Residents with information or dashcam footage of the pursuit are encouraged to contact the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.
