Conroe ISD Earns 3rd Straight TEA B Rating

Conroe ISD Earns 3rd Straight TEA B Rating

CONROE, Texas — Conroe Independent School District has maintained its standing as a high-performing academic institution, earning an overall B rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2022-23 school year. This marks the third consecutive year the district has received this grade, underscoring a period of stability in state-mandated accountability metrics.

The Texas Education Agency released the official accountability ratings on October 27. Conroe ISD achieved an overall score of 89 out of 100 points, landing just one point shy of an A rating. This score reflects a trend of consistent performance, as the district recorded an identical 89 in the 2021-22 and 2018-19 cycles. State ratings were paused during the pandemic years of 2019-20 and 2020-21, making the 2022-23 report the most recent snapshot of the district’s comprehensive recovery and growth.

Performance across the district’s three primary accountability domains remained steady. The district earned a B in Student Achievement (89), a B in School Progress (89), and a B in Closing the Gaps (88). The latter category is designed to ensure that schools are meeting the needs of diverse student populations, including those from various socioeconomic backgrounds and those receiving special education services.

At the campus level, the results painted a picture of broad success. Out of the district’s 82 rated schools, 38 received an A rating, 30 earned a B, and 14 were graded a C. Notably, no schools in the district fell into the D or F categories, a metric often cited by district leadership as evidence of an equitable education system.

Beyond letter grades, Conroe ISD campuses received a total of 116 Distinction Designations. These specific honors are awarded to campuses that rank in the top quartile of their comparison groups for excellence in areas including English Language Arts/Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Postsecondary Readiness.

Conroe ISD Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null credited the consistency to the relentless efforts of students and the professional staff who support them.

While a B rating is a strong indicator of success, we do not view these numbers as the ceiling for what our students can achieve, Dr. Null said in a statement. These ratings provide a useful roadmap, helping us identify where we are excelling and where we need to refine our instructional strategies, particularly in math and reading. We remain fully committed to continuous improvement.

The TEA accountability system is based on the Texas Academic Performance Reports, which track student outcomes across a variety of metrics. While the system remains a cornerstone of state education policy, it is often subject to legislative scrutiny and adjustment. The 2022-23 ratings were finalized following a period of debate regarding the methodology used to calculate college, career, and military readiness, or CCMR, scores.

For parents and community members interested in reviewing the specific performance reports for individual schools, the full data sets are available through the Texas Education Agency website at txschools.gov. Additional information regarding Conroe ISD’s specific initiatives and academic programs can be found on the district’s official website at conroeisd.net.

The district, which serves more than 71,000 students, continues to manage the challenges of rapid growth in Montgomery County. Despite the influx of new families and the resulting pressure on facility capacity, the stable ratings suggest that the district has maintained its academic focus throughout a period of significant demographic expansion.
