Alvin Man Arrested for Online Child Solicitation Sting

Alvin Man Arrested for Online Child Solicitation Sting

TEXAS CITY – A 39-year-old Alvin man remains in custody following a sting operation conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office aimed at curbing online child exploitation.

Michael Robert Orozco was arrested on Thursday, May 23, in Texas City on a felony charge of online solicitation of a minor. Authorities say the arrest was the culmination of an investigation that began earlier in the week.

According to court documents and statements from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Orozco began communicating online with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old girl on Tuesday, May 21. Following a series of digital exchanges, Orozco allegedly agreed to meet the person in Texas City.

The supposed minor was, in fact, an undercover detective working as part of the Montgomery County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Following his arrest in Galveston County, Orozco was transported to the Galveston County Jail. He appeared before a magistrate on Friday, May 24, where his bond was set at $250,000. As of Tuesday, Orozco remained in custody.

This operation marks one of the first major successes for the Montgomery County ICAC Task Force, an initiative established in February of this year. The task force was specifically formed to bolster law enforcement capabilities regarding the surge of digital predatory behavior across the Houston metropolitan area and its surrounding counties.

Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson addressed the operation in a statement, noting that while these investigations are resource-intensive, they are critical to the agency’s mission. Henderson emphasized that the department remains committed to deploying advanced investigative techniques to identify and apprehend individuals who target minors through digital platforms.

The case serves as a warning from local law enforcement regarding the persistent dangers posed by anonymous online interactions. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has urged parents and guardians to maintain open communication with children regarding their online habits and to be aware of the apps and platforms their children use.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as digital forensics experts continue to analyze recovered devices.
