Ex-Sheriff's Deputy Charged with Child Sex Assault

Ex-Sheriff's Deputy Charged with Child Sex Assault

CONROE, Texas — A former Harris County Sheriff’s deputy is facing a first-degree felony charge after investigators say he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in Montgomery County earlier this year.

Brian Charles Gascot, 30, was taken into custody on February 15 following an investigation led by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers. He is currently charged with one count of sexual assault of a child, a charge that carries a potential sentence of five to 99 years or life in prison upon conviction.

The investigation into Gascot began on January 19, 2024, when the victim’s mother contacted local authorities. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the mother reported discovering Gascot inside a bedroom with her daughter at a residence in the northern portion of the county. Subsequent interviews with the victim confirmed that a sexual assault had taken place.

During police questioning following his arrest, Gascot reportedly admitted to engaging in sexual contact with the minor. However, he claimed the act was consensual. Under Texas law, consent is not a valid legal defense for sexual acts involving a victim under the age of 17, regardless of any claims made by the perpetrator.

Records from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) indicate that Gascot had been employed as a detention officer with the department since September 2022. He was assigned to the agency's Detention Bureau, which oversees the operation of the county’s jail facilities.

In a statement provided to local media, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Gascot’s employment was terminated on February 14, 2024—one day after the warrant for his arrest was issued in the 221st District Court in Montgomery County, but one day before he was officially apprehended.

Gascot was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on February 15. A judge set his bond at $50,000. As of February 16, he remained in custody pending further judicial proceedings.

The involvement of the Texas Rangers in the investigation is standard procedure for cases involving allegations against law enforcement personnel, ensuring an independent review of the evidence.

Public records and internal HCSO files show no prior public disciplinary history for Gascot during his relatively short tenure with the department. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are continuing to process forensic evidence gathered from the scene.

Those with additional information regarding this case or other potential incidents involving the suspect are encouraged to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800.
