Stolen Truck Chase Ends in Fiery Crash, Arrest

CONROE, Texas — A 31-year-old man is in custody following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a fiery crash early Tuesday morning in Montgomery County.

Adrian Christian Perez of Houston remains held at the Montgomery County Jail after allegedly leading sheriff’s deputies on a chase that concluded when he slammed a stolen pickup truck into a construction barrier.

The incident began at approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies identified a suspicious 2021 GMC Sierra near the intersection of FM 1488 and Spur 149. Upon running the vehicle’s information, deputies discovered the truck had been reported stolen.

When deputies attempted a traffic stop, Perez reportedly refused to pull over, initiating a pursuit that traveled along FM 1488. The chase came to a violent end several miles down the road near the intersection of Texas 242. According to investigators, Perez lost control of the vehicle and crashed directly into a concrete barrier located within an active construction zone.

The impact caused the GMC Sierra to immediately erupt into flames. Deputies on the scene risked their own safety to pull Perez from the burning wreckage before the vehicle was consumed.

Perez was transported by emergency medical services to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Once he was cleared by medical staff, he was taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Public records indicate that Perez is currently facing charges of felony evading arrest and detention with a vehicle, as well as unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Adding to his legal troubles, authorities confirmed that Perez was already out on bond at the time of the chase. He was awaiting trial on a separate felony theft charge originating out of Galveston County.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details regarding the origin of the stolen truck or the specifics of the investigation. The crash caused a temporary closure of the roadway as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the wreckage.

Residents can monitor the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office website at www.mctxsheriff.org for future updates or to view current inmate rosters. Local authorities are reminding motorists that fleeing from law enforcement carries severe legal consequences and puts both first responders and the public at significant risk.
